Lisa Weller, RPT
I have been tuning pianos since 1983 and have been a Registered PIano Technician member of the Piano Technicians Guild since 1992. I tune and repair pianos mainly in homes, schools, churches and restaurants. Many of my customers feel like family to me because I see them once or twice a year and I've watched their kids grow up. I really enjoy going to people's homes, meeting the dog, seeing the family photos on the piano and getting to know my customers. I can't imagine having a "regular desk job". It gives me pleasure to see how the piano fits into a family and I feel honored to be the one to be allowed to service the piano and make improvements so the musicians in the house can get even more pleasure out of their piano.
I also tune and service harpsichords.
My training:
1980 - 1985 I apprenticed with Sam Shliff who was the technician at CSULB until he retired and moved away.
Since then I have studied with many local technicians in their repair shops. People who have had a major influence on me are Kathy Smith, David Vanderlip, Richard Davenport, Dean Garten, Bruce Stevens and Don Mannino.
The Piano Technicians Guild has continuing education classes through the local, regional and national levels. I always come home with my head filled with new ideas and techniques to bolster my skills.
Through PTG, I have taught classes on chemical safety, upright piano regulating and a study of how wires are adjusted in piano actions.
I have attended manufacturer's week-long seminars at Yamaha and Kawai.

He earnd his keep that day.
